Gareth Patterson from Burton Joyce Archers won novice recurve gold in a dramatic shoot-off against Canada’s Nicholas Meunier. The room fell silent as Gareth executed a near-perfect shot to clinch the medal.
The Army Sergeant from Beeston in Nottingham, has invisible as well as physical injuries. He said: “I was stuck at home for years after my injury, then I took up archery and it has been one of the main things to turn my life around.
“Not only has it helped with my physical recovery, it is also a great way to clear my head for an hour a day, which helps when you have lot to think about. When I am on the range, I shoot the bow and the tension flows out of me.”
Well done to Gareth who has only been shooting for a year.
