It is with great sadness that the family of Mike King; Archer, National Judge; Coach & Mentor announce his death. Mike passed away on Sunday 23rd June 2013 at home in Hertfordshire after a very brief illness.
Mike was a founder member of the Bowman of Charnwood, had been the Chairman of EMAS, assistant team manager for the English Archery Federation-Junior Team and a longstanding member, coach & judge of Green Dragon Bowmen.
All of us knew of Mike’s passion for archery and very specifically teaching and bringing his skill and knowledge to so many, beginners and developers alike. We consider it fitting that his last two weekends were spent at the club teaching a beginners course. To hear him talk of the weekend, its success and new converts was typical of his enthusiasm.
But archery was not the only passion, cycling, Scouting, railways all played huge parts in his life and he collected many anecdotes from every aspect. I feel sure we can all recall special times spent with him engaged in one or other if not all if his hobbies.
Mike had a big heart and gave his all to everything; that included his independence; he lived life by his rules often confounding those trying to help him. He was described to us the other day as a ‘Marmite Man’ you either loved him or – well he frustrated you; for those closest to him all too often both and at the same time, all too his amusement.
Other tributes have focused on his generosity of time, support, encouragement and love and we think of nothing more to add.
Good bye old man, you will be sorely missed.
